I truly don't think the airbenders are dead. A entire nation cant just be killed. The Fire nation isn't the only force out there. They don't know what they are doing with this war for superiority.

I'm hoping that they're is an Airbending colony much like the Foggy Swamp (that the right name?). You know, they'd be completely aloof to the rest of the world but still be just as powerful benders.

well thats just it...if the story does continue with another avatar then i'm sure in one way or another we will find out if there are more airbenders out there....but, if the story doesn't continue and the creators don't explore another story with the avatar in it, then we don't need to worry.....or maybe aang looses and the comet wipes out everyone (obviously thats not happening)

I also think there must be some airbender... Just remember it that the next avatar will be an earth- or waterbender, then there will be a firebender and then there must be an airbender... or?

Well, I believe in a secret colony of air benders that live in the under ground areas of Ba Sing Se. They come up to gather supplies and live like normal people. But at night the organization starts, and areas with doors only air benders could find will lead them to...Ill call it the air bender club. They go and learn the techniques. Simple.

Maybe by that time, Aang will have taught and passed the secrets to airbending to others. The creators also said that Aang can produce children with ability to airbend in the future when he's older. Like, if he and Katara were to have children in the future, their children would either be an airbender, or waterbender, or a none bender.
So, most likely by the time Aang dies, he would have already passed all the he knew to his descendants or followers for the next avatar to learn.

well there is the possibility that aang could write some scriptures or something of that nature so that future avatars or ai benders a like could learn how to air bend....

Maybe if you take a close look to airtemple walls you find moves and techniques there. And Teo and his father know a little about gliding. Its not much but when Aang dies without having the chance to pass on his knowledge its a start.

But think, we haven't seen the end of the show. We are just guessing. We have to see the finale so we can determine this. If it says nothing, then this thread can be a main topic holder. But if its answered, then there really is no point. I don't wanna sound like a jerk but its true.

you have a point but, the purpose of this is to theorize and speculate about the future of the avatar cycle and it's continuation with the teachings of air bending...granted we won't "really" know what will happen until the show os over and we see what happens on the end but, like i thought about before...if the show continues but with a new story i'm sure the creators have already worked out how the next avatar will learn to airbend....mastermomo12 i'm not trying to sound jerky towards you..i completely understand your point and what your trying to say

There's a chance that the Air Nomad civilization will be reborn in time for the training of the next avatar provided that Aang's gene is more dominant than Katara's. Not to mention by the time that the Avatar is an air bender again; The Air Nomad civilization has been recovering for four generations. Then again this is possible only if the Air Nomad gene is dominant over the other.
