so what is his purpose?
I mean he's obviously not random guy #1 or 2...
I mean, what is the objective?
(ie: the objective Mysteries and Cycle Survived was to defeat Tera/Clazdian, the object of Sokka/Katara is to bring Katara back to sanity, the object of the Tera stories was (and is) to keep Tera out of her paas [success?] and the story of Sanaki just shows what a little blind girl can become)
(oh, and object of my parody fics is... nothing. they're just there to be stupid)
so the examples aside, what's the object?
EDIT: I just got finished reading the whole thing again. I miss the fight scenes. lol they were awesome (and for the most part I liked the story)
oh, and although this sounds really rude, I ran him through the Mary Sue test and got around a 27 (I was lazy. I just assigned him the traits that I saw in him, and so I might not have been as hard as you)
The only thing I didn's like was that he seemed too young. it seems like he should be about 19 (and then 21).
oh, and I think he acts like a total douche (that's what I'd call him if I met him [before I got his sword through my head]) of course, I can't say that's bad. bad attitudes even towards good people is probably a good de-suifier.
just my thoughts on the matter.

Don't worry, he's not supposed to be liked, lol.
But the truth is, he has no "purpose". No "goal" or "mission". Although, he does want to go to Ba Sing Se someday... it's pretty important to him.

Well, if you mean the thing about his youth, it's supposed to be like that. He's meant to be that young. Which happens to be why he gets his ass handed to him quite a bit...
I mean, the ammount of scars that guy has...
His back has some permanent ones now, curtisy of Karo...

Well, you saw what happened when he went up against a bounty hunter... an actual trained fighter. He almost got killed...
But, that would have ended the series, so he had to be saved, lol.
But don't worry, I know his youth is an issue... it's mean to be. I mean, you have to have some Gary Stuiness, or your character is just lame...
