im just wondering if which of the two techniques is more powerful in terms of over-all combat effectiveness

well, you can't really say anything about that.
i haven't ever seen any firebenders bend lightening at night, or during a total solar eclipse.
and you can't bloodbend without the full moon (or at least were told)
so without the sun during the day, firebenders cant bend lightening and without the full moon, waterbenders cant bloodbend, so i dont think we will see a time when Azula and Katara(or any other firebender and waterbender) use these special techniques.
its one or the other, not both. They're opposites, so one special technique can only be used during one time.
but thats just MY theory

I had to be different, so I chose that lightning is more powerful. I also belive it's more resourceful.
To bloodbend one would have to wait for a full moon, and then wait a month to ever do it again.
Lightning just takes the skill and knowledge (I don't know if one needs it to be daytime, but that's everyday).

Well, to correct you, we don't know if lightning can be used at night since it's only ever been demonstrated in the day time. But you're right, bloodbending can only be used once a month and only at night. Lightning can be used everyday. |

My mistake. Well that proves that lightning is better, as long as the firebender is swifter on the attack then a waterbender during a full moon

1. Lightning.
2. The moon is full once every month. If you are using the moon to bace your theory your screwed.
