well, they were lost.
they were with her husband when he was killed by The Order, so she assumes that they died as well.
however, they never found any remains of the babies, but because they were of that age, they were assumed dead.

incidentally, it is revealed in this upcoming chapter that Maric and Malak share Tenoko's last name.
granted, it was probably because of my laziness, as I reuse things a lot. (I mean, I use the name Altina at least twice [Altina Serenes, and Katara Altina II] so using a last name more than once as a "wow coincidence" thing kinda just glides along with it)
so yeah. Maric and Malak have the same last name as Tenoko, but considering that they've met her and she didn't seem to recognize them, I doubt that they're related.
I mean, they would have to have survived the raid on the Water Tribe Palace as infants, which doesn't seem likely unless they were immortal or something. =P

I fool everyone all the time.
but the reusing of ideas really and truly is something I do do a lot.
I mean, I guess if you want to look for a logical way for them to be related, but just considering how different they are (and yes, Tenoko did not recognize them, 'coz she HAS seen them) I guess it's up to you.

of course, I did state that Altina was a semi-common name, and the odds of somenoe else sharing a common name are not too scarce...

I suualyl tell a lot of truth and slip a small lie in there somewhere...
of course, when people want me to be honest, I usually am... just not when I'm purposely trying to fool people
