No intro this time. This is different.
THE SMILE OF KYOSHI
This is the story of a young, beautiful earth kingdom woman. She was beautiful to look upon, and anyone who saw her would agree. She had soft, fair skin, smooth brown hair, twinkling green eyes, and an adorable smile that anyone loved. No matter where she was, she was always happy. She was a wondrous woman and was even a skilled earthbender. Those who saw her in action was surprised that such a soft and gentle-looking woman was capable of the power she displayed.
She was friendly to everyone she met—there was almost no way to bring her down. She seldom used her powers, and even when she did, she often surprised herself. She was a forgetful woman, but this only added to her playful and happy go-lucky nature. There were some things though, that she would never forget—the most prominent being the face of a person, friend or foe. Of course, at this time, she had no enemies. She never gave a reason to be hated. She was like a child. She may have been 18 and grown up, but she was still as innocent as a 3-year-old.
Her past was never understood. The earliest record of this woman’s life was her 18th birthday, after she had finished her training as a warrior of Kyoshi. Her intelligence level never enabled her to get a true education, and so becoming equipped for combat was her next best option. Yet underneath all that gear and makeup was the same pretty face, still clueless as to what her past was like, and the prowess she had. Those who saw her decked out in her Kyoshi uniform began to call her The Smile of Kyoshi, for, as always, this woman was always smiling.
She was a naturally talented young woman; the vigorous training the Kyoshi warriors went through was a breeze for her. It seemed like the one thing she could concentrate on. That, combined with her earthbending skills and prowess, made her a threat.
So what exactly was wrong with this young woman, who, from this point, would seem like the girl who had everything? It was a mental problem that she was born with that was the reason behind everything. The girl had a very short attention span and an even shorter memory. It was a miracle that she even remembered her name. The fact that she was so beautiful also worried those who kept an eye on her, for she could be seduced very easily. This woman trusted anyone with anything. She believed anything anyone told her, and people could literally get her to do anything just by asking her.
Unfortunately, there were people who thought that she would be valuable in more ways than one. The woman, blissfully clueless about just about everything, never had a clue what hit her. She was kidnapped, and soon after she was sold as a slave for a very large sum, for, just like before, she did everything that she was told. The man who bought her was unaware of what he was doing at the time; but the event that occurred next left him guilty for the rest of his life.
The young woman still did not know what was going on. She was told to hold out her hands. Naturally, she did so without question. The man did not look up; otherwise he might have had his change of heart right then and there. The young woman was still smiling. She had no idea what was about to happen. However, she soon found out and screamed in pain. She had just been branded, and now both her hands bore the mark.
Naturally, her owner was not about to care about it, and was going to put her to work right then and there, but the way she cried was just heartbreaking. These were genuine tears of pain. The girl was whimpering on the floor, sobbing from the searing pain that had just gone through her gentle hands. Although the man did not set her free, he learned something that day—some people were not meant to cry.
The woman’s cries were so sad—so painful, that the man had pity. He gently lifted her face so that it was looking up at his; her face was heartbreaking. The bright face and huge smile that usually governed this woman were gone, and replaced by a face of utter and sincere sadness.
“What’s the matter, girl,” he asked, and instead of responding with ‘I’, the girl used her name. She was not complaining about wanting to be free, she just said that her hands were in pain.
The man had a friend who was a waterbender who was able to relieve the woman of the pain in her hands. However, there were still signs of the burns, but for the most part, the brands were gone. He felt guilty that he had damaged such a gentle person like this one. Nonetheless, he paid a hefty sum for her, and therefore kept her.
She was treated well for a slave, and, just like the people who kidnapped her claimed, she literally did anything she was told. During her time as a slave, this woman only became stronger, and her skills as an earthbender and a Kyoshi warrior were lying dormant but ready at any given time to be released. However, it was the girl’s 21st birthday before anything happened.
Over the last couple of years, their uses for this woman had slightly diminished, and she had served so faithfully and lovingly, never complaining, never being angry or sad or mad even when she probably should have been, for being angry or sad was not in this woman’s nature. These last 3 years had softened this woman’s owner to the point where he actually released her. It actually took her some convincing before she left, because she felt like she was breaking the “no running away” rule she had been given on the first day, which she had followed loyally up until now. Nonetheless, she was let free, but her troubles were not quite over. There were two times in this woman’s life before her 22nd birthday where she cried, and so far only one had happened.
She was again spotted by bounty hunters, who not only thought she was a runaway, but also figured she was still valuable. There were earth and firebenders present, and they attacked her. However, her long-dormant skills suddenly came into play. Her performance was astounding. Of course, she had had years of experience, so it wasn’t like she had just magically learned this.
She effectively made quick work of them (not killing them, but rather knocking them out—this woman was far too sweet and loving to kill another person) all except for two, and earthbender and a firebender. The firebender shot a fireball that missed her and hit the wall behind her. The wall looked really hot now. The earthbender, right as the woman dodged the fireball, shot a rock towards her chest, which hit her and scraped the left side of her face against the hot wall. This ended up getting her a huge scar that covered part of her face—a cross between a scrape and a burn. For the 2nd time in her life, the woman cried, and it was the exact same as last time. It was because she was in pain. It did not cause any permanent damage except that the skin in that area was bright red. Her cute, innocent smile was still the same. She ended up escaping from them by attacking out of fear. From there she just ran frantically. She ran for nearly a day before she collapsed from fatigue.
It was here that her life changed forever. She was found by a woman with bright yellow eyes and huge pointed ears. This woman took the earth kingdom girl into her care and nursed her back to health. After she had recovered from that event, she most likely forgot about it, because she again resumed her traditional happy go-lucky attitude. This woman was a mysterious one. Nothing about her past could be collected from her. She simply responded with “I don’t know” every time. She really did have some sort of mental problem, but she was still just as loving as a person could possibly be.
These were only the 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st years of this woman’s life. She had at least 17 more years where absolutely nothing is known. Her past seemed like a dark one from the aura that the yellow-eyed woman felt; and yet the earth kingdom woman’s aura was the brightest one the other woman had ever felt, and she had lived for over 8700 years. This woman’s name was Tera, a notorious supernatural with a mixed past.
“Honestly,” she said, “I thought my past was a mystery, but no. with this one, I have nothing. I have no idea what she went through before she turned 18. All I can sense is a lot of mystery, intrigue, fear, and predominant yet enigmatic and uncontrollable happiness. I’m not sure if anyone will ever learn the full story of this earth kingdom woman—the full story of Zuki Meisha will likely forever remain unknown...”
