well, being naturally drawn to each other (it's a twin thing) it's bound to happen...

well, their significance in the story is that they're both pretty good waterbenders for their age (which is also why The Order targeted them) so maybe a waterbending battle or something.
of course, they're not gonna fight to the death, and even if (or when) they wind up on different sides, one of them would be heartbroken if the other died.

well, each one has a different fighting style. Maric's is offense and endurance, while Malak's is defense and speed.
