Sanaki: yep.
problem is, if it's completely dark, I can't firebend.
That's also how I know it's completely dark. Cutting off a firebender from all light is like putting an earthbender in a wooden cell.

Well, sometimes you can still feel the sun, even at night...
So I suppose being in a dark room wouldn't shut off Firebending.
But with no sun, you go totally blind, Sanaki.
No sun = no Firebending.

Sanaki: exactly. that does not mean I'm completely blind at night though--only on a day of a solar eclipse.
