Yeah, Sokka is a member now, it's a gift from the master who trained sokka, and when Sokka will show this white-lotus piece, they would know he can be trusted.

I think the appearance of the white lotus in Sokka's master didn't have much to do with sokka himself but to engrave into our minds that it is important and it is going to keep on showing up.
I don't believe the tile itself is going to do anything for sokka. It just showed where Piando's allegiance was. We can't be totally sure what that allegiance is because we don't know enough about the white lotus society.

I think he was given he White Lotus Tile, so that when Sokka finds out about the White Lotus and their logo/tile. Sokka will understand that Paindao is apart of the group. I can see how maybe it would act as an initiation, but I think Paindao understands how smart Sokka is, and how he would figure out the White Lotus and it's objective.
