its sort of sad and short but sweet
onelast first time
blue flames flew out of no where. i ducked and yelled, "look out!" and dived behind a tree just in time, however my moment of brilliance was in actual fact an act of stupidity. the fire set the tree alight and it toppled towards me. i had no time to react. no time to move. but barely a split second before the blazing branches crushed and burned me, i was thrust backwards off my feet by... a pillar of earth. Toph, i thought. thank you.
"snozles you have to pay more attention!" i yelled at sokka, whilst shooting rocks at our attackers.
"thanks!" he shouted back. "for the rock too!" i heard his stupid war cry and laughed inside. as i was fighting i began wondering if i'd ever get the chance or guts to tell him how i felt. then in a flash of vibrations and noise i realised that if i didn't act quickly i wouldn't ever get the chance. i completly fogot about bending. i was maybe a couple of metres away from him, and he didn't have a clue of the danger of the lightning heading straight towards him. i jumped infront of him, screaming as i fell.
i heard toph's scream and weeled round, knowing that the sound had come from directly behind me.
"TOPH!!!" i couldn't believe what had happened. time stopped as i fell to my knees beside her.
"katara!" i croaked, unable to take in what had happened, but she was already rushing towards us with her flask open.
everything went dark for a while and i felt no pain at all. this is it, i thought. you'd started to build the best life anyone could imagine for yourself and now it's over. all of a sudden, without warning, pain coursed through my body burning me searing my flesh and bones. i cried out and opened my eyes. i could feel katara beside me. she was trying to heal my wounds, unknowingly though, making the pain worse. through the agony i was able to whisper. "no! stop katara." she did stop and she turned her head.
"oh toph you're ok! it's me. i'm healing you!" she didn't understand that it was just making me suffer.
"it won't work. leave me" then i noticed sokka beside me on the opposite side. his heart was racing. could it have been from the fighting?
"No." he said with an air of authority in his voice. "she did it for aang and she'll do it for you."
"i can't let you die on me." he said this in such a soft voice it was hard to believe that the authoritiveness could vanish so quickly.
"i promised yue's father i'd protect her and i failed. i won't fail you." he didn't understand either. but i suddenly realised, in his voice was a hint of worry and sorrow and was that? -love?
"i've lived my life and it was good." i said. then i started to drift away into darkness. my eyes closed and i became limp.
"no! toph wake up! stay with me!" at that i was pulled back from the abyss and i opened my eyes.
"sokka?!" i was amazed. it couldn't be true. it must have been my body shutting down. "i- i can see you!" he looked at me with his gentle eyes in disbelief.
"how is that possible?" he asked "you can see me? right now? um, what colour is my wristband?"
"blue" i answered. he looked amazed. but i was feeling weaker by the second. my eyes were begining to close again. then, he kissed me.
as i kissed her all my feelings bubbled up to the suface. she couldn't die on me. i couldn't stand it for her to leave me.
"please don't go" i whispered to her
"i have no choice" she returned. she smiled "but at least... i got to see you... one first... and... last time ... before...." she trailed off.
"before what? before what toph? don't say before you died because i won't let you-" she had gone limp. "toph? toph! TOPH!" she was gone.
"sokka. let me-" as katara reached out a hand to place on my shoulder i gabbed it, firmly. "no. leave us" that was all i could say.
she sighed and walked closer. "LEAVE US!!!" i bellowed.
i cryed mself to sleep that night layed beside her lifeless form. but i thought to myself she was right. at least we got to really look into each others eyes and truely see one another before the end.
