I have all sorts of subtle references to canon and the likes as well.
the character that I know have never been mentioned are Aang, Ozai, and Iroh.
and maybe Toph and Ty Lee. I know I've mentioned Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, and Mai before...

I think that might have been referenced...
but yeah, for the most part, those references are rare.
and there's such a huge time gap that not only does it make it somewhat plausible, but also just makes it not matter very much.

how does that work if it's before the series? =3
speaking of Bei Fong though, I think that with chapter 45 in place, that Toph and Iroh are the only two characters that have gone unreferenced, and that must be rectified.
and not, Val is too s|utty to be as bada** as a Bei Fong xD

Well, she did run away from her family... lol.
They could possibly have moved away from Ba Sing Se and settled down in Gaoling...
They didn't, though. I have her last name on record somewhere on my laptop...

so? Taki ran away... Zakura ran away... (Koara was taken away, which is why she lived in the Northern Water Tribe though she states truthfully that she is a Southern Waterbender)
as for last names, I found that I can't have a character without one for very long, 'coz I usually end up making one...
and that's why every character from the TOAS series so far has a last name...
