if uve read my others you may find that this repeats a bit of my other one. well thts because this was gonna be a sequel to it.
Katara closed her eyes. It seemed so strange, that heaven was simply a kiss away, and resisting the feeling of warmth beginning to burn up inside her was just making it burn more fiercely than ever.
Zuko had never felt such bliss. It felt like he was flying, no sight of a place to land - no need to. This weightless feeling was taking over him.
They broke apart and both blushed. Neither of them knew what to say or how to explain what had happened. Zuko thought he should be the one to cut the silence.
“Erm, well I- -I’d better go check on… things. You- you know” as he was backing towards the door he knocked over a vase of flowers. “Oh!” he leaped to catch it and katara caught the water with her bending, trapping the flowers inside. They made a perfect team, her water bending and caring nature, and his fire bending and strength.
“Well I, um … bye.” He stammered, putting the vase back on the table. She bended the water back in and smiled, blushing. As zuko was closing the door -slowly so as to use as much time as possible looking upon her-, she called.
“zuko.” She softly said. He looked up immediately. “My question.” She smiled sweetly, and waited for his answer. Truthfully it didn’t take long to find the answer but he needed every possible excuse to be in her company. Inside he smiled. Then outside he smiled.
“yes.” He began. As he was leaving he added, “I’d trust you with my life.” and closed the door.
They decided that they would keep their relationship quiet for a while, only meeting in secret. Katara told zuko to come to her room after dusk.
When he got there the door was ajar for him. He tip-toed in and saw katara sat on the bed with a bowl of water beside her. She smiled and stood up.
He closed the door and walked towards her. “Are you ready?” she whispered, placing her hand gently on his scar and kissing him on the other cheek.
He lay down on the bed. “Ok doctor, work your magic” he joked. She sat down beside his head and took some water from the bowl. She twisted and twirled it until it encircled her hand. He had never before noticed how delicate and elegant her bending was.
“Relax and close your eyes” He did so and she began. Just laying there –anywhere- and relaxing was something he hadn’t done in a long time.
A while later, it occurred to him that this seemed to be taking a long time.
“Is everything… ok?” he opened his eyes and saw katara with tears in her eyes.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, surely she wasn’t crying for nothing.
“I’m sorry zuko.” she whispered “I did everything I could but, like you said – it’s a scar- I don’t think I can heal it.” She backed away and ran into the wash room to dry her tears. He sat up and slowly followed her.
“Katara. It wasn’t your fault.” But still she cried. “Listen,” he continued. “if you were meant to heal my scar it would have been possible. Look at me katara… please?” she merely shook her head and sobbed. Suddenly he knew why, and felt hurt. “It’s my scar.” He said out loud. She looked up.
“No, no” katara whispered, shaking her head. She was just saying that to be kind, he thought.
“It’s hideous, isn’t it? He asked knowing the answer whether she told him or not. He winced, readying himself for her to try and say something to compliment it or make it seem ‘not so bad’.
“It’s not like that” she said. “I- just wanted you to be happy”. He opened his eyes and she was directly in front of him, all traces of tears gone, and no way to tell she had been crying.
“Zuko. When I fell in love with you, you had that scar. I still love you now. And always will.” She smiled at him and caressed his cheek. He smiled back and ran one hand through her hair, whilst wrapping the other one round her waist. They leaned in towards each other until their noses were touching. Katara leaned even closer and whispered in his ear. “Now kiss me you jerk” :-) XXX
