Okay we know this: Fire-Power Water-Change Air-Freedom Earth-Substance But did you know that Air and Fire are the male elements? Water and Earth are the female elements? Thats why the creators made Katara and Toph the Water and Earth masters. Zuko and Gyostu as his Fire And Air masters. (that doesn't mean that you can't like water and earth if you are a guy, and air and fire if you are a girl.) So I think thats pretty cool. Also some other stuff to know Water+Air=Wet Water+Earth=Cold Fire+Air=Hot Fire+Earth=Dry So add some more stuff if you know any!!!!! ;D ;D

I didn't even know that Bumi used the elements with the 85 jins.

... Also some other stuff to know Water+Air=Wet Water+Earth=Cold Fire+Air=Hot Fire+Earth=Dry So add some more stuff if you know any!!!!! ;D ;D That's something i don't understand. Why is Water+Air=Wet? Water is pretty wet on its own already?! Why is Water+Earth=Cold? Both elements on their own can be pretty cold already?! Why is Fire+Air=Hot? Fire is pretty hot on its own already?! Why is Fire+Earth=Dry? Both elements on their own can be pretty dry already?! I'm confused!!!

Water+ Air = Wet I think he means by the moisture in the air. That unique sweaty feeling.
Water + Earth = Cold I have no clue what he means. Earth isn't all that cold though...
Fire + Air = Hot Technically, Air is one of the fuels for fire, so if you added a lot of air to a fire, it would turn into something that I would guess to be a bunch of hot air, because the fire would be blown out and the remaining air would contain a lot of sparks and have a mirage type of feeling and feel like a heat haze...
Fire + Earth = Dry I think That he means fire will dry out the earth. When you touch newly decomposed soil or packaged, it is very moist and healthy for plants. However, heating it cause the moisture and nutrients to evaporate and the remainder of what you get is hard, tough, soil layer. The soil hardens alot and is very dry, if you were to grind it into powder you would have something that looks rather like sand.

But what would these categories (wet, cold, dry, hot) be good for anyway? I mean, searching for elemental mixtures, that the different benders might be able to bend (mud, lava, etc.), makes sense, but those rather strange categories are keeping me puzzled.

Mmkay, my studies of elemental associations finally comes in handy! Now, I'll let you guys apply this however you like to the show, but here's the elements laid out with what they are associated with as accepted by most pagans, except for kmt re-constructionists, because Egypt's elements are shifted. Couldn't find my list, though, so I'll leave that out.
Water: change, female, psychic awareness, the hidden, secrets, "the mysteries", purity, cleansing, moon, silver, flow, flexibility, connection, adaptiveness, cycles, tides, ALSO:storms, despair, darkness, "the secret, dark corners of your mind", and then of course the obvious water creatures Fire: passion, will, drive, sexual prowess, creation, action, strength, the duality of creation and destruction, also purifying, refining (like with gold), sun, the heart, body heat, but also hot-headedness, arrogance, action without consideration Earth: grounded, stability, money, the physical world, physical body, bones, earth itself (though this generally includes plant life, unlike the bending scope of the ATLA world), understanding, knowing, wisdom, maturity, death (and simultaneously rebirth), but also stubbornness, stagnation, and isolation Air: freedom, communication, mental prowess (not just wisdom, reasoning skills), creativity without the application of fire, so just the idea, thoughts, speech, words, equanimity, winds, but also restlessness, inability to settle down, and speaking without considering emotions
Mixed: Water: +Earth=gives movement and flow to the stability of earth, ie, if you have money (earth), you can then move it around and make it flow(water), rather than just pile up in a jar. Basically, keeping the stability and material possessions of earth while still moving and cycling with water, whereas usually water drops everything it carries along the way. +Air=high intuition; being able to apply the emotions to the logic and creating an ideal situation for the good of others, rather than just what is wanted as an ideal (ie, I WANT PEACE!) or just what works (ie, Communism is a great idea! The unavoidable despotism is what sucks.) Water's secrets revealed by air's words. +Fire: Odd mix. Constant flow of power, BUT it can become irrational, taking emotions and using fire's passion to act on whims. However, it can imply that if you have used water to find the oneness (talking in mysteries here) you can use the will of fire to spread it and enact it in your life. Fire: +Air: very simple: Thoughts become action, air is the potential and fire is the inaction. +Earth: Exponential growth. Earth: +Air: I can only think of practical architecture, haha. Investments. Libraries. Basically, creating a learning environment, both literally and physically.
So I took this a little far, I -am- studying to become a priestess, after all, but hopefully this will give you guys a spring board for theory building. <3

Okay we know this: Also some other stuff to know Water+Air=Wet Water+Earth=Cold Fire+Air=Hot Fire+Earth=Dry Added! However, where did you find this mix table? I know I've seen one similar but with different explanations. The way I see mixing of elements is explained in my above post, so I was curious where you found them put into states of being? Interesting... I'll have to let it sit and I'll figure out the "secrets" in it ^^

Right? I don't remember if that's what he said, but Airbending is the evasive bending art so I guess you can call it retreating. Fire=Agressive/Positive Air=Passive/Negative Earth=Stable/Nuetral Water=Unstable/Chaotic

Fire=Agressive/Positive Air=Passive/Negative Earth=Stable/Nuetral Water=Unstable/Chaotic here's what I see from this. it makes sense. Fire=Agressive/Positive Fire is generally offensive with little or no defense (with Sanaki's methods as an exception) Air=Passive/Negative Air does seem to be the retreating type, and since the opposite of offensive advancing is retreating, it fits.Earth=Stable/Nuetral Earth is very defensive. those who focus on defense are (need to be) unwavering and stable. again, it fits.Water=Unstable/Chaotic water is unpredictable. chaos=unpredictability. therefore, this one also matches.ta-dah! ~Sanaki~

I pwn with my knowledge. Plus I was Wiccan back in Jr./ High Scool so I learned a bit about elements.
