Heh, so says those who find logic
against them.
I'm not gonna push the issue of Zutara. This isn't even the right place for it.
Why did I ask the previous question?
I want evidence as to Sokka's feelings for Toph...
romantic feelings.Sokka w/ Suki- I don't see how the 'love at first sight' affiliates with Sukka. I doubt very much that Sokka's mild sexist views on women had Suki ga-ga for him when she first encountered him. I think she only learned to even like him is when she saw Sokka had changed those views and started respecting her as a warrior as well as a girl. It was later that Sokka shows more interest, like in the gang's return in the island, Sokka asks where Suki is and is initially disappointed when she isn't present on the island.
Let's examine Serpent's Pass, where there is a big difference as to Sokka's behavior towards Toph and Suki:
With Suki, Sokka is very overprotective. Why does he need to be? Suki is a Kyoshi warrior and can pretty much take care of herself. Yet, he constantly shows he cares and wants to protect Suki from harm. When they got in danger from the rock slides, Sokka tried to save Suki when Toph saved the both of them. She even sarcastically acknowledges the fact that Sokka didn't see if she was alright.
With a very long absence from Suki during season 3, this gave a lot of time for Tokka to develope. Did it? It did. But, only for Toph. It's obvious that Toph likes Sokka, yet she is like every girl with a crush. She's shy. And let's not forget that Toph is very tough and girly things don't appeal to her that much. Yet, Sokka isn't shy at all with his feelings. Especially romantic. He doesn't hide interest in a girl. Is it because Toph is tough? I doubt it. Suki is just as tough as Toph. She can hold her own in a fight and defend herself with as much strong will as Toph can. Their difference is that Toph is an earthbender and Suki is not any kind of bender at all. She's pretty normal if you overlook that she's a Kyoshi warrior.
The absence was so long that I, even as a Sukka shipper, forgot that Suki and Sokka were still involved until the Day of the Black Sun: The Eclipse, aired. But, I was very happy to see that Sokka had not forgotten Suki. When Azula teased him about his captured girl friend, his reaction definitely defines what Suki means to him. Heh, she seems so important that he'd go 'whoop-ass' on Azula.
Sokka w/ Yue- I find it quite
disgusting when you sum up Yue's sacrifice as being 'pwned by becoming fish'. I was at first apprehensive about Yukka, since I still shipped Sukka at that point. But, Yue earned mega win after she sacrificed her own life when she became the MOON SPIRIT in order to SAVE SOKKA and the rest of her people. She didn't just become a fish, as you said. She sacrificed her life, a chance to live and be with Sokka, in order to save him and her people. Please be careful how you put things, Tera253. I doubt M&B would like their work to be put into such a cheap explanation.
But, I digress. I'd like to think that Yue was Sokka's real first love. Even after her death, he so fondly remembers her. It's very touching. When Toph innocently theorizes that there is some malevolence of the Moon, Sokka quickly defends her, praising her to be of 'Lunar goodness'. Sokka still cares deeply for Yue, even if he has moved on with Suki, as seen in his hesitance to kiss her in front of the moon or his shushing Suki as the play in ember island displays his and Yue's story.
Sokka w/ Ty Lee- This was only a brief crush, but it was clear that Sokka found Ty Lee to be attractive... and she was his enemy.
Sokka is a clear flirt. If there was any guy of the avatar universe to be shown as suave, that would go to Sokka. He has been shown a number of times to flirt with many girls; like the Haiku club members.
IF Sokka has any feelings for Toph. Why does he not show it? Is it her age? Is it because she is his comrade? Is it because he's shy? Is it because he thinks she doesn't like him?
To me, there is no excuse as to explain why Sokka doesn't show obvious romantic interest towards Toph, if he does have any. I see that he cares for Toph, enough to cheer her up if she's down. I see how he treats her with respect as an earthbender and comrade.
Have I seen him flirting with her? Being very over protective over her? Think fondly of her? Get those goo-goo-ga-ga-eyes for her. No.
Maybe when Sokka can openly act like he is romantically interested in Toph is when I will ship for Tokka. For now, I choose Sukka.
I choose not because it is awesome. Not because Sokka is awesome. Not because Suki is cool and tough. I like Sukka because they actually care for each other deeply. Because their romance works and is still working. I like them because they make each other happy and would go all out to help one another or make the other happy.
-----------------
As you look at Sukka, Maiko, and Kataang to be 'straight forward', 'simple' and 'boring', I look at all opposing shippings[Tokka, Zutara, Taang, etc.] as fabrications on fans fantasies.
Are Sukka, Maiko, and Kataang straight forward? Yes.
But, I don't see why it's so opposed? Why the main characters always get together? Because it just works. It also works with the STORY. Is it overused? Yeah, it is. But, why does it have to be a negative thing. If two people have CHEMISTRY and FEELING FOR EACH OTHER, does it matter their role?
Like I said before, if Sokka showed interest in Toph, I'd like them. If Katara showed as much feelings for Aang, for Zuko, I'd totally ship Zutara. I will never ship a couple if they just, 'look cute together' or 'they're different'. It doesn't mean I ship only canon pairings. I have plenty of fanon pairings I squeal for and I do oppose of some canon pairings. But, if a pairing has clear chemistry, clearly like each other, clearly show that they like each other, make an effort for each other, and has evidence; that pairing gets my support.
.... whoa... that was a lot. ^_^;;;;;
