Our journey continued towards the water tribe in search of the avatar. There was another unsettling chill in the air. Neither Yue nor I was talking. I’m sure she was thinking about what had just happen back at the village. I know I was. I could just picture the image in my head so vividly. I could see it so clear as if I was looking at the poor individual who had been brutally executed. I had to do something to get that horrible feeling away from me, so I decide to break the ice this time. “So the Northern Water Tribe we’re going to huh? That’s cool. Not literally I mean”. I said. “OH NO”! Yue screamed. I got into a fighting stance and shook with fright from the sound of Yue’s scream. “WHAT; WHAT HAPPEN? Is someone there”? I asked. Yue slapped her forehead. I heard the big thud of palm hitting head; or something. “I can’t believe I didn’t check this before I left home”. Yue exclaimed. “What is it? What happened”? I questioned. “Well the thing is…I kind of forgot to check with my parents on which Water Tribe to go and look for the avatar”. Yue said hesitantly. “You forgot to check? Isn’t there only the Northern Water Tribe anyways”? I asked. “No there are two water tribes, a Northern and Southern water tribe”. She said. “Are you kidding me Yue? Well which direction are we travelling in”? I asked. Yue put down her bag and unfolded her map. “Well judging from the map and the direction we were walking, we are on route towards the Northern Water Tribe”. She said.
We sat down and discussed our plan of action. “Ok, is this the right way we should be going”? I questioned. “I think so”. She said. We sat down and tried to determine which water tribe we should travel to. “I have an idea”. I said. “Tell me what you know about both tribes”. I said. “What will that solve”? She asked. “Well we can determine from what you know which tribe to travel to”. I said. Yue explained to me what she knew about both water tribes. After listening to her short explanation, I thought that travelling to the Northern Water Tribe seemed logical. It felt right as well. It felt as if I knew we should travel there. “Ok so it’s settled then, we’re going to the Northern Water Tribe right”? I asked. “Right”. Yue responded.
We continued on our path to the water tribe. But my stomach was rumbling and we’ve been walking for hours. “Hey you think we could rest for a while and eat something”? I asked. “Yeah I’m getting hungry too”. Yue said. We stopped somewhere and sat down. Yue unpacked her cooking equipment and got to work on the food. Half and hour later we started to eat. Man was I hungry. I didn’t even wait for the food to cool down. I finished my food in no time and rested my back on a tree that we sat under. “Ahhh”. I said. “Man was that good; maybe because I was hungry but, Yue you can cook up a storm”. I said. “Do you want mine”? Yue said softly. “What’s wrong”? I questioned. “I’m just not hungry”. She said. “No I’m fine. I couldn’t eat another bite”. I said. I tilted my head up as if I was looking at the sky. I could feel a gentle breeze blowing around my face and arms. I inhaled the fresh air and relaxed my body. I felt at one with my surrounding. The feeling felt right. It felt as if I was one with the earth, like a déjà vu.
I put my head back into a neutral position. “Your thinking about what happened at the village aren’t you”? I said to Yue. She didn’t respond. “I know what it must have felt like hearing the man say how the merchant was killed”. I said. “No you don’t”. Yue said sternly. “I do”. I said. “No you don’t. You think you know what I feel like but you have no idea”. She snapped. “Yue I was right there. I heard what the guy said too”. I said. “You only heard him. I…I actually saw what happened to the poor guy”. Yue wept. I took my back off the tree and crawled towards the sound of Yue. I tried to put my hand on her shoulder but she brushed me away. “Yue”. I said softly. “It was absolutely horrible. His eyes were wide open as if he was frightened but he had the scariest smile on his face; and the dagger”. Yue said. “I don’t think a water bender could have done this type of thing”. I tried to reassure Yue. “It was a water bender”. She said with a fright in her voice. “The dagger was shaped with such precision and skill. It was made out of solid ice too”. I put my hand back on Yue’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. I won’t let anything happen to you or me. When we find the avatar we will get him or her to help us find this killer and put a stop to them”. I said sternly. Yue put her hand on mine. I couldn’t tell but I think I started to feel embarrassed. I moved my hand away (cough) “well…umm we better get going if we’re ever going to find the avatar, so lets get going”. I said nervously. “Yeah…let’s get moving” Yue said nervously too. I couldn’t see her face but I had a feeling that she was looking in my direction.
We continued moving. “Hey we’re coming into a forested area”. Yue said. I wish I could take in the sites of the trees. I could hear the sounds of the animals that inhabited the forest. It was calming and inviting. Yue was humming a tune as we walked. I guess the small chat we had took her mind off what she saw. It took my mind off the image I couldn’t get rid of. We continued walking through the forest. We heard some rustling and Yue stopped humming. “What’s that”? I asked. “I don’t know”. Yue answered. We closed in on the sound. “An Earth Kingdom Royal Guard”? A puzzled Yue said. “An Earth Kingdom Guard? Are you sure?” I asked. Maybe they were investigating the area for any clues on the murder I thought to myself. Yue told me to put a hand on her shoulder because she wanted to see what an Earth Kingdom Royal Guard was doing in the forest. I put my right hand on Yue’s left shoulder and clenched my left fist tightly in case. We approached cautiously. “Are you ok sir”? Yue asked. The guard didn’t respond. “Hey we asked you a question”. I said swiftly. The guard chuckled. “Ugh”. Yue said softly. “Why so serious my young friend”? The guard said calmly. “No disrespect sir, we just want to know why are you out here”. I said. The guard chuckled again and said “just bringing a smile to my face that’s all”. The guard said calmly. “Well you better be careful, there’s a murderer loose somewhere”. Yue said. The guard chuckled again and said “you kids have a nice day while you can” and walked away. “What do you think he meant by have a nice day while you can”? Yue asked. I didn’t answer. Some thing wasn’t right about that guard.
Until next time……
