These are my views on Zutara, Kataang, Taang and Tokka. The main 2 are the Zutara and Kataang ones, which are pretty long. But take the time to read it, and I hope that it is worth it. I’m warning you now. I will insult Zutara and insult Zutarians a little bit. But, don’t take it personally. Surely you understand that there are some situations where you must do anything to support your arguments, or situations where people have said something that is not true, when it clearly is. Just to let you know. Do not come complaining to me, or smiting me, or whatever. If you don’t want to see you or your favourite ship insulted, then just do one simple thing, and don’t read it. Other than that, Enjoy~!
Zutara: Why, oh why must this exist?
Let me start off by telling you all one crucial point. The creators never intended to have Zutara in the first place. (DIMARTINO: And I never would have thought that the potential Katara/Zuko romance was going to be so ... you know, so big for people? Because honestly, that wasn't our intention from the start (laughs).) This doesn’t mean people’s imagination is shattered, and hopes are lost. I can only tell you that though it may seem like a wonderful romance, it will not happen. So, it can only stay in your imagination. Dream all you want. Pray all you want. It is not going to happen.
After the ordeal with Fire Lord Ozai is finished, Zuko will most likely go back to Mai. And, Aang will confess his feelings to Katara, and Katara will confess the same. Maybe after unlocking the seventh chakra, Aang will forget about Katara? I don’t think so. Have a look at Roku’s story. It is unlikely that he was not thinking about that woman that he liked while he was gone all those years for his Avatar training. He went through the same process as Aang to unlock the Avatar State, and guess what? He came back marrying that same woman! So, who’s to say that the same won’t happen to Aang?
Frankly, I seriously do not understand why people think Katara and Zuko are such a good pairing. Sure, Zuko has changed, but I still don’t understand why people ship Zutara. It is stupid, and something that should not have been discovered in the first place. I mean, how does a girl threatening a guy with death mean that they will end up together? “Zutara!”, a certain someone said after seeing the Western Air Temple. Explanation? I seriously don’t get it. Maybe you think that this ship is a possibility because of all the TV dramas where the guy hates the girl, and the girl has to work very hard to get him, then the guy gets used to her, then loves her, or vice versa. Let me tell you, threatening someone with death means hatred of course, but it is in no way the same as any other drama with a similar situation. Where, in a TV drama have you seen someone threatening someone with death, and then later on falling in love with them? In most cases, lovers are the same age, two years may not seem much, but the two characters are very different people.
Katara is simply just too young for Zuko. Think about it. Would you like your girlfriend/boyfriend be two years older than you/younger than you? For adults it may not seem to matter, but Katara is only 14, and those of you around that age would surely agree with me that you would definitely not go out with someone that much older than you when you are that young. I know I certainly wouldn’t. I’m 15. My girlfriend is a year older than me. That’s enough. But if she was 17? 18? I would certainly reconsider it, because then she would be too mature for me, and, they wouldn’t want to talk to someone younger than them that much either.
Maybe Katara and Zuko are similar, where they both lost their mothers, so, that is the only thing in common they have. Losing their mothers to the Fire Nation. But, does that mean that they will fall in love with each other just because of that? Think for yourself. It takes more than one reason to fall in love with someone. Yes, they both get angry easily, but if you think carefully, Katara only gets angry at the right times, when the person is actually really bad, whereas Zuko gets angry at almost everything. Bad temper much? At least he is not as arrogant as he was before. His mind is clear now, and therefore, he does not need Katara feeling sympathy for him, or comforting him, or showing affection towards him, because he is very clear now with what he wants, he is not confused anymore. So, no more pain. He knows his destiny.
Kataang: Why do people hate this so?
Ah, good old Kataang. I will start off by pointing out that this is the relationship that the creators intended to have from the very start. But that is not to say that they would not be good together as a couple. I can assure you, they would be a very good couple, and I will prove to you why this is the right ship for you.
The old happy ending Disney style. You think it’s boring? You call it a Disney style ship because the main character falls for the girl? Avatar is much more than a children’s show. Name one other children’s show that has as much more drama, conflict, etc than Avatar. See? None. It is not a matter of whether or not it is relevant to a Disney style ending. The fact is, that Zuko has not been through much with Katara, does not talk to her much, and, the two haven’t exactly been on good terms with each other for the first 2 seasons. Can two people really fall in love after hating each other for such a long time? A Disney style couple happens in what, 1 or 2 hours? In a movie? Avatar is much longer than that, and Aang and Katara have been through much more together, and care about each other a lot because of that. This is not just a Disney style couple that you see in a movie. This is Aang and Katara’s love for each other, which has developed over a long period of time.
You Zutarians say that Katara doesn’t show any interest back? You’re blind. If she did not show any interest back, she would have backed off when Aang kissed him during the Invasion, and, would she not have blushed. Would she not have recommended kissing Aang when they were in the Cave of Two Lovers? Would she have blushed at the end? Would she not kiss him at the end of most adventures? You can call this a motherly attitude, but do you see her kissing Sokka and Toph on the cheek as well? Yes, she is a mother figure, to most people, but to Aang, she is a lot more. Maybe we don’t see her interest in Aang MUCH, because she is trying to keep her love for Aang secret. You have seen this in almost every other TV drama. There is always a reason why. We do not know that for sure now, but it will be revealed in future episodes. Just wait.
Just like the Fortune-teller said. “You will marry a very powerful bender”. Hmm. Could be Zuko. He is a powerful bender after all. But, if he was a very powerful bender, he would have captured Aang the first or second time round, and, the rest is self explanatory. Did you see Katara’s face when Sokka said “Sometimes I don’t realise what a powerful bender Aang is”. Yeah, she had to ask once more to make sure she heard him right. And that means that she is eager to love Aang after hearing what the fortune-teller said.
You can say that Katara discovering Aang is just a coincidence. Or, you can say that it is fate, and what the fortune-teller said is true, and that they are “meant to be together”. You see happy couples like that in the real world, saying stuff like that to each other. They are right of course.
Taang.
I will not write much about this, seeing as there are not many arguments against it, and it is a ship, like Zutara, that will never come true.
I do not expect Aang to get together with Toph in the series. I don’t want to. It would mess up the whole storyline that creators have worked so hard on. The only reason why I like this ship so much is that the both of them are the same age, and the same size. They would be very cute couple together, and would not have much conflict. The only problem is there is not much interaction between Aang and Toph. But, if there was, then, that would be a different story.
That is all I am writing about Taang. There is nothing much else to write about it. I just like it simply because I like cute (weird for a guy?). And Aang and Toph are a very cute couple together. For some reason, I tend to like it when young people are in love, such as Netto and Meiru from Megaman, and though they are older, Naruto and Sakura from Naruto. I’m sure there are many who agree with me.

I really do not want Tokka to happen. I don’t know why. I just don’t. Yes, they have much more interaction with each other, there have been moments, such as in Sokka’s Master, where Toph missed Sokka, but didn’t want to admit it. And, out of the Gang, Sokka is the only one Toph hasn’t been angry at, and vice versa. A very compatible couple. There’s no doubt about it. But, I just don’t like it.
