When she preforms a punch or kick it is blue fire, so hot it can cut through rocks and sometimes metal. But when you see her on the ship with those two old ladys instructing her (ep. 1 sea. 2) she is preforming the nessisary yin yang task described by Iroh in the ep. "Bitter Work" to actually create lightning.

She normally bends blue fire, it's confirmed
you can't just deliver bunchs of electricity in a kick or punch, creating the single lightning requires a lot of time and concentration

I always considered it being rather obvious whether she uses lightning or fire. Apart from the color the two effects have not much in common when it comes to the display. They feature different moves, different animation and different sound effects, so ...

its blue fire not lighting. lighting takes too much energy to bend it that much

when she bends blue fire you should know that it means it is more powerful and hot. Even in real life blue fire is the hottest kind!!!

I don't get how Iroh, and the fire lord don't bend blue fire which is why I always thought azula was the most powerful!!!

Yeah, I'd wondered that, too... I assume her "two finger awesomeness" is actual lightning? But usually the art is distinctive; whispiness for blue flame, and pretty obvious electricity for lightning. I personally enjoy the lightning, though <3 It's wonderful.

Most of the time she is bending a blue flame, lighting is complicated and takes a lot of concentration to seperate the energies.

how about Ozai, he bended it faster than any1 else seen before, maby azula does it fast as well without the whole trick before, so can Iroh BTW
