What if, just if, Aang never ran away from his destiny when he's 12. What if through Gyatso's council; he had stopped the Fire Nation from bringing down the entire Air Nomad civilization, probably learning the Avatar State during his rightful time. Now after a hundred years Aang would die (presumably) maybe he won't live as long as Bumi and that is possible, right? He would then be incarnated on the next element which is water? Now, what are the chances of Katara being that Water Bending Master? And do you think it's nice if she was the Avatar...
Avatar Katara .... has a nice ring to it wouldn't you say? ;D

dont forget, there would be a lot more waterbenders in the southern tribe, and there are a lot in the north, 1 out of i would guess couple 100
but... Avatar Katara does have a nice ring to it

Well, she seems to have some kind of advantage, Master Pakku declared her master and she's still 14, much like Aang who became an Airbending master when he's just 12. Not to mention she mastered blood bending in a split second, comparing to Hama which was already a Water bending master and it still took her a month or two to master it.

Yeah, Katara is a quick learner and a good bender. I can kinda hear someone saying Avatar Katara.

wow, Avatra Katara does sound knda cool  but yeah she learned most of her skills unusually quick, so ther's a chance she might've been a planned avatar |

yeah,i mean the show couldnt spend like 5 episodes showing how katara mastered bloodbending or 6 or 7 episodes showing how katara mastered waterbending.that would be a bit boring? but katara could still be an avatar though
