Wray awoke from a long days rest. At once, servants rushed to his side, and did everything from feeding him, brushing his teeth to dressing him. Even if wray was born in this kind of life style, it still didn't make any less uncomfortable to have people dress him. His father walked into the room with a note in hand, still reading it.
Father said, "Apparently you have been summoned to see the yu yan archers fight and maybe learn from them."
Wray said, "It doesn't matter even if I watched them all day, this nation is asking to much of me."
Father asked, "What do you mean?"
Wray said, "I am a water bender, how am I suppose to learn water bending watching fire benders?"
Father said, "They are not benders, just really good at what they do?"
Wray said, "I would rather people not know I was a water bender while I am there."
Father said, "Why?"
Wray said, "I would rather not get attacked just because I was born in the water tribe."
Father said, "You're all only 10 years old, how bad can it be?"
Wray said, "You wouldn't understand."
Wray and his father left to go to the yu yan archers base. On the way there, only the silence filled the air. They passed through a small town. Wray counted the numbers of times he saw people hurting, stealing and other crimes. Wray wasn't surprised by how high the number was, it was always like this with the those poor people.
Wray said, "I already saw 3 muggins, 6 people trying to steal stuff and I lost count the number of times people were scamming people out of their money. Why is it that they can't just behave themselves?"
Father said, "They justify their actions because they want to survive. Listen here, one of the things that separates us from them is we follow the rules, no matter what. Be sure to remember that, we may not be royalty but we are something better."
Wray asked, "Whats that?"
Father said, "I don't know the proper term but I'll put it this way. The royal family was given their power, our family earned it through honest work."
Wray and his father reached the base. His father bought some fire flakes.
Father added, "Of course, not all of them are bad, you see over there?"
His father pointed to some kid you had been grabbing his stomach for quite some time."
Wray grabbed the bag from his father, and started to walk over to the kid eating a few of fire flacks on the way. Wray sat next to the boy and gave the boy the bag.
Kid said, "Thanks."
Wray said, "I had my fill anyway."
Wray looked at the kid closer, he was pretty well behaved even if he wasn't brought the same way he was.
Wray said, "Whats your name?"
Kid said, "Dre."
Wray said, "So what you guys doing here anyway."
Wray felt happy, this was time another kid that didn't either look down on him for being a water bender or worshiping the ground he walked on, it was relaxing.
Dre said, "archery, its pretty dumb."
Wray saw his father wave for him to come.
Wray said, "Well I have to leave, I would say see you around but I am only visiting here you see."
Dre said, "Wait, whats your name though."
The Wray smiled, "wray."
Wray left without saying another word. He didn't want to mess up the memory. His father looked confused but happy. Wray time for fun was over though, it was time to watch the yu yan archers practice. Wray didn't really watch, he knew the only way he would really defend himself was through his bending, but only learning through half burned off copies of scroll was proving to difficult. Wray trained but showed only little results. Wray went to his new bed room to sleep, but could help but thinking about what it like if his mother didn't give him to the fire nation, and was raised by both his real parents. Wray did fall asleep. Wray was awoken by his father at a very late hour.
Father said, "Remember when I said that we earned our power, well its your turn."
Wray said, "What?"
Father said, "You well have to go a month with my or anyone from our families help."
Wray said, "What! Why!"
Father said, "Its always been this way, so your time starts...now."
Wray dressed himself and left. Wray wondered around for an hour or so when Wray heared his name being yelled. He turned and saw Dre and ran.
Wray asked, "So, how did end up like this."
Dre answered, "I don't know, they did to me while I was sleeping."
Wray took out a bag of water.
Wray asked, "Want some?"
Dre responded, "Ah...thank you."
Dre started to gulped the water down. While he was drinking, wray used water bend to cut the ropes, he didn't wany ruin this chance by dre finding out his was a water bender. Dre fell down and landed on his face.
Dre said, "Good job."
Wray said, "Shut up, anyway I did you a favor, so I need one."
Dre stood up.
Dre asked, "Whats that?"
Wray said, "I need a place to sleep for a while, but nobody can know where I am. Is it okay if a share a room with you for a while."
Dre said, "Sure, but you sleeping on the floor, I don't have a spare bed."
Wray said, "Lets go right now, okay?"
Dre said, "Okay, but I need to eat before we get going."
Wray spent the month at dre's with his father knowing, though he wasn't sure if he cheating or not. Wray returned to his home. Wray found a more effective way of training, he feed the water benders in the prisons in exchange for training. Three years passed while wray used this method of training. Wray was once again asked to prove himself but this time, for two years.
