Dre packed his things and left the base. Dre was a bit nervous, since it was going to be the first time off base since he arrived. He couldn't even remember anything before the base. Dre didn't plan this out at all. He headed into town that the base was stationed near. Dre looked around, and noticed a lot of things that were different from the base, people were smiling, laughing and having fun. It made him a little feel at home even if it was just a street. Of course, Dre hadn't seen it at night yet. Since this town had one of the highest crime rates in all the fire nation, things weren't going to stay like this.
Vendor yelled, "Hey millinery brat."
Dre turned and saw an old man at a clothe shop. Dre came over to the old man and stood attention the way he would for any instructor. The old man looked at him funny.
Vendor asked, "How old are you again?"
Dre said, "13"
Vendor said, "You are a little tall to be 13 boy."
Dre said, "Its the truth."
Vendor said, "Man they are training you young now, why back mu day...."
Dre didn't want to stay and listen to some old guy rant about the "good old days."
Dre asked, "Hey, can I get some clothes?"
Vendor said, "O, I am sorry for bothering you. Yes go a head and pick out what you want."
Dre looked at the clothes. There wasn't a lot of options though, only clothes that were black, white or red. Dre picked out black pants, a white shirt and red shoes. Dre asked how much he owned him and offered him money but the man turned him down.
Vendor said, "Just take them, those clothes aren't even worth the space they take up."
Dre was thankful but he thought that it meant he had bad taste once he thought about it. He heard a loud fire work in the distance. He ran toward the source. He was excited, but then remembered that it was the middle of the day and it would be odd to have them go off right now, so started to sprint. He saw a large fire spreading through a street he almost ran past but stopped himself. Apparently the firework had caught fire on a large pile of explosive jelly. He could barely breath as it was, he had no idea how to stop a fire this big anyway. He heard a woman scream. The woman pointed toward her baby, still wrapped in a blanket and in their house.
Woman yelled, "Somebody help my son."
The woman started to ran into the building.
Dre whispered, "Not again."
Dre cut the woman off and pushed her down on his way to the building. Dre made it to the building right as a piece of the wall gave way from the heat. More smoke clouded the area. Dre could barely see his hand in front of him. He heard the baby's cries and headed toward them. Dre sight improved, the was hardly any smoke in this room. He saw the baby and felt a little relived. He headed over to the baby. As he did, he saw a large piece of the inflamed ceiling fall down head toward the baby. He fell to the floor and caught just before it landed on the both of them. He tried to push it off of him, but was to tired to do so. He thought that even if he was going to die, the baby wasn't joining him. He used his legs to give him enough room to reach on his back and grab his bow. He tied the baby's blanket to his arrow. He lunched the baby out of the burning building through a window. He felt his legs buckling under the pressure. Dre couldn't take this anymore.
Dre yelled, "Help me!"
Dre noticed that the fire was being put out. He knew that meant that people were on the way. He just had to last a little longer he kept telling himself. Dre began to loose conciseness. He knew inhaling so much smoke while being so tired would do this to him. His legs gave way. He saw the wall coming down on him. But before he lost conciseness he felt his arm being pulled.
