There once was a story I knew
and everyone thought it was true.
And without a doubt
the story slipped out
and now I will tell it to you.
"Miko was a firebender. Not just ANY firebender either, she was the fire lord's daughter."
"So, the Fire princess?"
"Yes, Chelsea, she was Princess Miko, if you want to get technical. Now, please don't interrupt."
"Sure thing, Gramps."
"Now, Miko was given everything she wanted and she-"
"Like Toph! Let me guess, she was unhappy with all of her glory?"
"Well, yes. She even had the best firebending tutors in the world!"
"Was she blind like Toph?"
"NO, Chelsea. Now sit quietly." Chelsea nodded. "Now, Miko, like you said, was very unhappy. She had the best everything. Her tutor, Mrs. Carnegie, was the best the world had to offer. Every day since she was seven years old, Miko would get up at dawn and leave for Mrs. Carnegie's house. After lunch at her mansion, Miko had to immediately depart for her firebending classes. Following her lessons she would go to dinner or whatever gathering her parents had hosted."
"Sounds like the life I want."
"Hush, child."
"Is this REALLY the story of Miko, or are you just twisting Toph's story into firebending so I'll listen?"
"No, no, no. This story happened only about 130 years ago. Way after Toph had deceased."
"Ok, well, on with it then."
"Miko had lived with this horribly repetitive lifestyle until she was fifteen. By then, she was so depressed that she actually tried to commit suicide, but failed because her family's guards never left her alone."
"Not even when she slept?"
"They kept a guard outside her door at night. He would have heard."
"Woah..."
"One day, Miko just up and left her family. She figured it would be better living alone. Her parents were devastated. They called everyone. Search and rescue. The world went mad looking for Miko. Think about it young one, for parents who wouldn't let their daughter sleep alone, this must have hit them hard. They figured she was kidnapped, because she was of royal blood."
"Did anyone find her?"
"No. No one found her. No one found her because she as hiding in the last place anyone would ever think to look! She was only about a mile or so into the woods right behind her family's mansion. She was there for a whole year. eating when there was plenty and stealing from her parents when times were harsh. Pretty soon, Miko was unhappy again. She wanted to travel the world. She had stayed in one place too long. Do you have any idea what she did next?"
"She left?"
"Yes she did, but do you know what she did before that?"
"No. What?"
"She completely robbed her parents. She ransacked the place. Almost every bit of food was gone. She tore the furniture and broke the dishes. And as for her old room? She burned it. She put it out before it touched any other part of the house. Then she stole one of her family's dragons and flew away."
"Wait, she was half burning the place and flew away on a dragon and no one saw this?"
"She had impeccable timing. Everyone was away at a ceremony in the Earth kingdom. Now when she flew away, she knew she would never be coming back. She was so happy from her freedom, she didn't know where she was flying. After 3 days of nonstop flying (for dragons can fly for 2 weeks without tiring) she began shivering. When she opened her eyes and looked around, she saw snow was falling and there was ice floating in the water below. She tried to heat herself up with firebending, but hypothermia had already set in and it was no use. She quickly turned Nona, her dragon, around hoping that they would get into warmer temperatures while she was still alive."
"Why didn't she just put on a coat? She stole everything from her parent's, right?"
"Yes, everything but clothes. The only clothes that were at the mansion were royal looking clothes and she could go no where looking like the princess, for the world was panicking looking for her."
"Oh, right... well does she make it?"
"Barely. She rode on Nona for another hour or so, her body temperature dropping steadily. Eventually, she passed out. When she woke up, she found 4 faces staring over her. They were people of the northern water tribe, and their waterbending healers had healed her. When she got up the first time, she fell. But, she barely made it. Her tattered clothes and knotted hair made it impossible for the Water tribe members to know her as the princess. So for the next month, Miko just watched the water tribe members train. She told them she was a waterbender from the southern tribe whose bending powers had just stopped working. She wove an almost magical tale, telling them of her journeys to get there, and that she stole the dragon to fly there. They all believed her, so every day she would train with the master waterbenders. Of course, nothing would happen because she was truly a firebender."
"So, did the waterbenders ever find out she was faking it?"
"No, because she was such a good faker. She stayed there quite some time, learning the stances, the movements. Had she been born a waterbender she would have been a master by now. But then, into her second month there, her restless spirit stirred up again. She told them her mother would worry if she stayed away too long, so off she went. Nona was very faithful to her and rode her all the way across the globe to the southern water tribe without taking a break. The northern water tribe had given her all new clothes, so she was warm this time. She told the southern water tribe the same story as she told the northern tribe- only reversed. They took her in, and she practiced water tribe movements, once again 'failing' getting her bending powers back."
"Well? Did she leave the southern tribe as well?"
"Yes my dear. After a while she grew tired of waterbending all together. She began to grow hasty, and this time up and left without telling anyone at all. Nona carried her long and far, until they reached Ba Sing Se. Miko left Nona outside the city, in fear she would be discovered for who she really was. She walked into Ba Sing Se, under a fake, water tribe identity. As soon as she stopped at the first store, she was arrested. she had been discovered right away. They threw her in jail until her parents came and got her. None of them said a word on the way home, though Mike's mother did shed a few tears. Miko had been away for about two years. As soon as she arrived home, she was sent to her stylist and decked out in fire princess worthy clothes. Then she was sent to a room with her parents. He father screamed and shouted at her. Her mother cried. The whole time this was going on, Miko just sat there and stared at her parents with glazed eyes. Her father finished up his lecture by telling her she was grounded for life and she was never to be married. Then Miko got up and punched her father square in the jaw. He fell in shock. He tried to fire sweep her off her feet but she dodged easily. when her father got up, she grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall. Then she slowly suffocated him, watching every last bit of life drain from his eyes."
"Miko went crazy! She killed her own father!"
"It might seem like she went crazy, but she was really saving her own life. Once Miko was sure he was dead, she let him slump to the floor. She had gotten the vague warning in her father's punishment. He was going to kill her tonight. Sure enough, when Miko reached into her father's pocket, she found a gun. She turned to face her mother, who had passed out. Miko did not kill her mother, for she had nothing to do with her father's evil plot. She left again. She sliced her thick black hair short and left in her water tribe clothes. Then she took another dragon, this one was a boy. It's name was Tonashiro. She was planning to study the earthbending style next, but she arrived at an air temple next. I believe it was the southern one. She met a small group of airbenders there. Quickly she whipped up another lie. The airbenders unanimously believed her and they let her study there. She became and airbendng style master within the month."
"Well, then what? she went to another earthbending city and learned earthbending style?"
"That's exactly what she did. Once again, she left without telling anyone. By now, Miko was more animal then human. There were dark circles under her eyes from no sleep and she made no mistakes. None. She mastered earhtbending style quickly. She was in the small town of Taho when she realized she now had no purpose. There was no reason to live anymore. For the second time in her life she planned suicide. But as I said, she made no mistakes. None."
"Well if she was planning suicide and she made no mistakes, what happened next?"
and everyone thought it was true.
