That's the point. If I work hard for a (relatively) short ammount of time, helped along by my "save and save some more" attitude, I can slowly get devices installed that will decrease the need for me to spend my income, which will cause greater profit margins.
Food, water, electricity. Once I can get my own, I'll be fine. All the rest is merely a luxury, which I will then be able to afford anyway.
It's not really exploitation, but the lack of people actually spending the time and money to ensure they will have to spend less time and money is staggering. A day-by-day, or even a week-by-week plan isn't enough. Plan for the long term. No matter how much a personal generator costs, eventually you make back the money in electricity bills you don't need to pay.

of course. I'm familiar with that, seeing as my family has one.
granted, the catch is that there's gotta be fuel for it, and depending on the source, that could become expensive...
but I guess it depends on what sort of life a person would plan to lead. living as a hermit would probably be the easiest bet.

Duh. Hermit live would be pretty sweet. Nobody to bother you...
But I was thinking more of generator that's powered by kinetic energy. Perhaps even just the spinning of a water wheel that is connected to my water supply. That'd provide enough power for moderate usage.
By three more, and you've got enough to spare. Then, get some large batteries, to store any excess power that is produced. It's all a big, complicated system. I've got plans somewhere...

But you're talking to someone who already understands them, so make of that what you will. Either way... finished dreaming yet? good. now wake up.

Who's dreaming? You have no idea how easy it really would be do get my plan up and going.
I mean, maybe where you live it wouldn't work, but then, I live here. And here, anyone willing to do some extra work can make it big. Besides, it's a long-term plan.

I guess in 20 years we'll see who was right and who was wrong.

I doubt it. By that time, I'm sure I'll have stopped going to this forum, and ones similar to it...
Of course, I might not.
And even then, my plan is considerably longer-term than that anyway.

That's the tricky part. See, there are ways to do a lot of things in todays world with barely any skill at all. I mean, just look at the people who run the world.

I do.
it's how I know that most people pretty much lack the skill needed to do what they do.
there's only a handful of people that I know that have skill

Well, see, all I have to do is exactly what everyone else does. Only I follow my plan, and ensure that all else comes second...

It's not actually a plan that can fail, you know... I don't need luck. It'd probably help, of course. (Like, say, I find a lottery ticket that just so happens to be the one that wins a couple million dollars)

Which is why I'm going to play it by ear. If I planned every detail, or even planned too excessively, Murphy's Law would slap me twice in the face.
