Cant waterbenders bend plants if they put their mind to it. They sure can. They can even pull water out of plants. As for "how much" can earth benders bend, well, they can bend quite a lot and large amounts of earth, depending on the level of expertise and training an earth bender has had.

Yes but you assume that earthbenders have the same refined motor skills and adaptability as water than yes. but the problem is they dont. only toph has show any apt. at bending any other form of earth (metal) and thats cause she can see the earth in it. Others cant so they dont. When iroh described the earthbenders he does not describe them as adaptable but as stuborn and strong while it is water that is the element of change.

O, I didn't want to bring metal bending in because so far Toph is the only one that is seen to metal bend. But I do understand what you are saying. I didn't assume anything though. I just tried to make a generalization that applied to all benders and their types that they can bend a lot based on their training and experiences. Like the aforementioned Toph and her metal bending.

Nice arguement.
I would also like to point out that earthbenders can control magnetic waves and bonds between earth to allow them to scale walls and such with their hands. this doesnt have to be done with the earth gloves the Dai Li Have...

It allows them to slide on the floor also! And its uses with their chains / handcuff thingies.

hmmm... my sources say no. plants get most of their mass from the air, so, if logical biology was followed, that would go to the airbenders. (of course, bending of any sorts defies any laws WE know of *laughs*) Then again, they do take SOME soil, but I think it's so close to nil that it makes metal look simple.

I don't think earthbenders can bend trees. like the human body plants consist to a high percentage of water.

I think probably the ultimate form of earthbending would be to bend the core. ~Toph~

unfortunately the lack of soil or eath is so great that the earthbender cannot draw power from it. i mean all water has air but not even the waterbending masters of the south pole were able to bend water from the dry airs the fire nation pumped into their prision. Episode reference The puppetmaster

What I don't understand is why can't toph bend wood because I thought wood comes from trees so wouldn't wood be earth, please answer me!!!! Wood was made from the earth...but maybe their was not enough "earth" in it for earthbenders to bend it but i do know water benders can bend from trees....(Watch The Puppet Master to see what i mean) Yours Truly ~Zukoforlife~

Ok, let's define 'Earth' According to wikipedia, earth is as follows: "soil or dirt, the material in which plants grow" Earth is the material in which PLANTS MAY GROW. Plants are not earth. Plants are living organisms. NO bender can move plants unless they are plant benders which according to the show, doesn't exist..
