They got loads of technology and they have the greatest proportion of bender in their population a lot is to do with psychological fear too

They were able to conquer b/c of their strengh (from the comet), the element of surprise, unity, and superior technology. Also, this war might not have started out as a fighting war for the earth kingdom, the fire nation might have promised them something but it turned out to be something else. if this is making sense. It started out a fight for the Air temples and probably the water tribes too.

firenation is a little island
but in the island are very much firebender
the most benders are in fire and earth
how we seen its just southern watertribe (katara and hamma)
and in the nothern watertribe they are not much benders...
but the firenation have very much benders and they have very good special atacks
blue fire and the coolly fire
if any1 target and get you with the lightning then you are 98% dead...

I was wondering, the fire nation had conquered almost the whole world but when you look on the ATLA map the fire nation is only a tiny island compared to the earth kingdom. Does anybody know how this is possible? although they the fire nation is only a speck in the map compared to the other great nations, the power of the comet boost the firebender's power exponentially, especially the fire lord's. this is, i think, is the reason why the invasion was possible. |

I think it's a mix of the power from Sozen's comet and just military suberiority. I mean if one little city in Italy can become one of the greatest empires ever (I'm talking about Rome FYI) then why can't an island. Size has nothing to do with success--it's all about stratagy and tactics.

Ahh the reason is simple The Earth Kingdom is conquered coz it is too big for a single leader to handle.I mean the Earth King cant Controlled everything and the fact that he does not noe about the war further weakened the Earth Kingdom as they could not use the royal treasury funded by the king of course.The only other ruler i noe is King Bumi whhos is a king of a cityand thats how the Earth KIngdom cities must be ruledby a kingand the Earth King is like The Overlord which is easier to rule his vast Kingdom.

Size has nothing to do with success--it's all about stratagy and tactics. yeh, i like this, i think the main thing though is the Metal, so far, only Toph can bend metal so the earth bender's rocks just bounce off like the drill. Plus, they don't need as many benders to operate the machinery, they only need bender's to attack. This fact gives them a large troop multiplier Try pitting a tank up against a company of soldiers with spears and swords and see how long the battle lasts. |

i think the best explanation is that the earthkindom army may be big in size.. and may even be very well trained, but because the land that they defend is so large their army cant be everywhere at once. pluss the firebenders had metal which, in the eyes of an average earthbender is a giant obstacle

That's how they were able to capture so much land
They were smart and conqured places that held strategic value to them.
They also had a great deal of help from Sozin's comet remember.
