The sub-bending of air in my opinion is the ability to create the sensation of gravity. Also, it could be used to block the air flow from someone's body, thus suffocating them. Sound would be a pretty cool alternative.

Sound is not a byproduct of air. Sound is merely vibration that your ears pick up. So no, "soundbending" or whatever would not be related to air.  And what do you think is "vibrating" so that your ears can pick it up? - you guessed it - AIR!!! Scientifically speaking "Sound is a vibrational transmission of mechanical energy that propagates through matter as a wave - through fluids and GASES as a compression wave, and through solids as both compression and shear waves." So in an atmosphere sound is pretty much (wave-)fronts of compressed AIR, and thus very well related to this element!  |

as far as "sub-bending" goes....
Each of the special abilities have something to do with the elemental particles that make up the thing that's being bent
Lighting...contains heat and creates fires
Metal...contains ore taken from the earth
Blood...contains traces of water
Logic would lead me to believe that even a low lever airbender could bend the air inside a persons body...keeping it inside or taking it out or even recycling it....
as far as a sub-ability goes...i don't really think tornadoes qualify simply because they're just a lot of air moving in a big circle...
My theory is that Airbenders...upon reaching the necessary level for the sub-ability will be able to affect air PRESSURE...
Condensing air to a point where it has weight...a thickness that presses down on an object thereby crushing it.
Or decreasing pressure in an area effectively reducing gravity's pull allowing for self sustained flight...
it's just a theory...so don't quote me

Or decreasing pressure in an area effectively reducing gravity's pull allowing for self sustained flight... it's just a theory...so don't quote me The airpressure thing is quite reasonable , yet there are some flaws in some parts of the theory: 1. actually air has weight already 2. airpressure is an effect caused by gravity, but gravity is not affected by airpressure. So when you reduce airpressure you won't enable somone to fly, instead you would simply cause a (near-)vacuum so that this person would suffocate or die a horrible low-pressure death. |

There's no gravity in space...so the vacuum info is noted...
But wouldn't a high level airbender be able to bend it in such a way that there wouldn't be a danger?
as far as all the other bending sub-abilities...there's a substantial danger there...
seen when Zuko exploded himself with lightning
there's the possibility of bending the blood too strongly bursting blood vessels
Just noting that if one mastered the air pressure ability then he or she would be able to reduce the danger and use the ability as a fighting advantage...
just a thought...

Sound bending wouldn't be something all that unique to air bending then, because Sound is created through atom bouncing away from their original spot, moving other atoms and then come back together and that is similar to lightning bending where they separate the 2 energies ( Yin and Yang) and they come crashing back together, creating lightning.
Air is the element of freedom, so I doubt you can contain air in a geometric shape, unmoving. Most of Aangs shields are created by the motion of wind and and repulsion by centrifugal force as the fighting style air bending is based on has circular movement to build up power.

Sound bending is pretty sweet, and I think it is possible because Aang should be able to compress the air. However, I believe that the most powerful form of airbending is climate control because they said that in the summary of the Western Air Temple. This would consist of changing the temperature, pressure, making storms and such.

wait u havnt added blood bending and also..fire air and water should be able to have something to do with bloodbending cus air-we breath this in our body so aang should be able to bend it fire-the heat in us but i dont think if thats right and water wich you allready know is blood bending i already posted this in another thread but.... Air- controlling the oxygen in someone (much like bloodbending) you can also kill them by taking the air out of that person/thing Fire- bending the electrical surges in the mind to control their every thought, action, and motion. Earth- Controlling the iron inside someone to bend their body parts(bodybending) |

not so much a subbending as much as a special technique but it has been confirmed by the episode spoiler that airbenders have the ability to control the climate and the weather. ang says he understands how to do it but it is a forbbiden technique that he fears using as well.
