Peoplez. The Sub-Bending of Air is... Sound! Soundbending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because... Soundbending is a non canonic specialized form of Airbending in which the bender is able to generate sound waves and manipulate already existing ones as they travel through the air. One possible canon example of this is shown in "Tales of Ba Sing Se" when Aang, while trying to lead the animals out of the city to outside the inner wall, used Airbending to blow his bison whistle, sending massive sound waves throughout the city to call all the animals. He also may have used it to amplify his cry for help when trapped in "The Firebending Masters", as there was a noise like a gust of wind accompanying his shout, although this may have been artistic liberty. In the TCG, Soundbending techniques include "Misdirect" and "Shrieking Wing".

interesting theroy....nice points and even nicier conclusion...to be honest i was gonna say i think the sub bending element for air was the avatar state meaning that the air bending is more powerful while in the avatar state...but this theory blew mind out of the water

Actually, in Tales of Ba Sing Se, Aang just blew in a lot of air that increased the volume, he wasnt manipulating sound, he wasent even bending at all.

Then in that case, sound works for air as lightning for fire.... because in truth a fire bender separates the surrounding energy and guides them to a single target where they would join together again creating lightning. A fire bender do not actually manipulate or bend lightning; they cannot command it. A fire bender is only a humble guide to energies' desire to restore balance.

LOL sub-bending... oh, i got it. its the gliding they do. They glide around and that is not airbending, for they are not, changing the position of the air, but they are moving through the air. it involves airbending, yet it is not! it MUST be true!
