Fire vs Water..Ok but then you'd say Aang and Toph too because that's Air vs Earth? o.o Actually Aang and Toph is a whole other story. Obviously they would not be good for each other (you saw how they were in Bitter Work...it just wasn't meant to be). Their personalities are too opposite. Aang needs someone that would encourage him, and Toph needs someone with a more stubborn and dominating personality (coughcoughsokkacoughcough). Katara and Zuko's personalities match each other perfectly. The elemental opposites merely adds to the appeal, I think that's all pandemonium was trying to say. That's what makes their relationship more intriguing...personality, and the fact that the elements also work out as a balance in their favor. It's cool (there'd be a fun watching them play fight that wouldn't be there watching Aang and Toph play fight with earth and air...just not as appealing..and who can picture Aang play fighting at all> He's too nice. He wouldn't get mad enough...). I also agree that Aang is cute, and it would be hard to see him rejected. So I'd prefer them not to have any relationships officially set at all in the show as Tenoko wrote. But I'll always lean toward Zutara, because I would enjoy seeing them together more than I would Kataang. *shrugs* my preference.

*smirk* Maiko makes me sick. To tell you the truth, I once didn't mind Maiko until I saw it in action on the big screen...it was the worse cartoon pairing I've ever come across. She didn't understand Zuzu at all. She loved the Zuko she thought he was, when in reality Zuko has always wanted to do the right thing (make his father proud of him) but just went about doing it the wrong way. Mai always knew that when she followed Azula, the choices she made were not for the benefit of the people, but were for the princess's satisfication. Still, she didn't care, because she was bored.
Furthermore, Zuko seemed to just be going along with it because Mai liked him. I don't think he really liked her for her, but just for what she represented. An attractive woman was interested in him, and since he'd gotten the scar, he must have thought it would not be possible.
Remember when he and Katara were in the cave, and Katara said, whenever she pictured the enemy it had always been Zuko's face...and Zuko touched his face sadly? Yes, he felt ugly, and so the fact that Mai seemed to like him regardless made it okay to date her. He knew it wasn't for his money or his status, but that she genuinely liked him, and so he went with it, and flirted probably for the first time. Enjoyed it even...but when it came down to it, it was too easy for him to leave.

it was not easy it took him about five eps to do it. He learned about his destiny in the avatar and the fire lord and made the choise in the eclipse. he realy does love mai. just think about it if she came with him he could get her in danger or worse. He left a letter to explain why he did what he did if, he told her in person it would upset her and it would lead to another arguing. that would waste the time he had to face is father and escape in time. it takes alot of currage to give that all up so it was not easy for him to leave. i think he and mai make a great couple no, she does not understand him but she tries to, she even changed her attitude for the guy.

Kisses, does not equal love. People kiss all the time, because well...it's fun, it's exciting, and ...dare I say it,.... it feels good. So just because Zuko kissed Mai does not mean that he loves her. He spent most of the time pushing her away, and was angry when he thought her attention was directed somewhere else...again because of his insecurity. He feared not being able to keep Mai, a beautiful woman by his side because he was flawed. Zuko still thinks of himself as appalling to look at, I think. It took courage for Zuko to leave, but it was not really just Mai he was leaving...Mai was just a part of it. He left the luxury of being a prince (remember when he and uncle were traveling, he used to be angered that they were royalty but were treated as peasants) and he was leaving his past that he realized was always a lie. As phillynokurokiba brought out in a post (Will Zuko turn bad Again) the people of the fire nation are taught that by taking over other nations they were sharing the fire nation greatness...not terrifying and hurting people and their families. Now that Zuko knows the truth and realizes he could never be happy accepting what is bad when in him there is good (a concept Mai has no problem with...her conscience didn't bother her at all) he left. It was a struggle, but he left (took him more than 5 episodes I think...the conflict has been in him ever since he was traveling with his Uncle in the Earth Kingdom). His apology note, to me, was simply another closure for him to leave the life he once craved. We can't really factor love into this at all if you think about it. PS, gion (Arnook, Bumi...and whatever else you feel like calling yourself ), your explanation was not too deep. I enjoyed your perspective. Don't be afraid to be deep, it shows a working mind.

I agree on that it shows a working mind, but if you're going to think of the whole series too deep, won't you eventually get disappointed? It's only a television show after all.

Well, it certainly takes debating to another level that could not be accomplished if you weren't too deep. *shrugs* I have come to appreciate and notice a lot of things about Avatar because people have been "too deep". The series was made by guys who think about every possibility in this world of Avatar they have created. That requires deep thought. I know from experience in creating my own world for stories, it takes deep thought to cover questions readers might have. The show, is deep, and has underlying themes that are subtle enough to pass over little kids heads and allow them to enjoy the show, but for people that are older, like the creators, their is more and this forum has helped me to appreciate that in a way I've never before. So I disagree with the disappointment factor. The deep thought simply leads to discovery of things not automatically realized in the show. Check the Theories page if you want to see what I mean. And give Mike and Bryan a little more credit...this ain't just any ol' cartoon. This is a cartoon I have come to respect for its thoughtfulness.

I agree with you about the deepness of the show, if it's too deep little kids wont be interested, and because it's a cartoon older people may not pay any attention. So it's a good thing that it's deep enough for enjoyment and enough that it'll "pass over little kids heads". But I do hope Mike and Bryan would make the show deep enough to answer all our questions........I suppose this is where books come in handy; they can get deep without the hindrance to please little kids.

lol. Thanks Bruce. I know I annoy people because I think too much...but I really can't help it. And so, when I see someone make a point and I think of something they might not have thought about, I have to post it. Anyway, I too hope they'll make it so that all the questions that have popped up on this forum will be answered.

This show isn't like Spongebob, it has backround and a consistent storyline; depth is needed/required for such a show. That's why I like it so much, there is enough backround to each character, instead of just mindless random stupidity (I still think Spongebob is funny though). GO DEEP!!!!

I don't know why Zutarians can't just accept that Zutara isn't gonna happen. Aang loves Katara and Katara loves Aang. And have you watched 312? Katara hates Zuko! It's just not going to happen!

I lurve Zutara! Why? Cause Katara is far too motherly towards Aang to harbor romantic feelings towards him! And, he's a monk, remember? Monk's generally don't get hitched! And (yes, theres more) she didn't kiss Aang back in day of the black sun...she just kinda let him but katara has motherly sprit to all the avatar kids and when aang kissed her she blushed (she liked it ;D) kataang all day
