Yes they were females airbenders. The Eastern Air Temple and the Western Air Temple were for the female airbenders. The Eastern Air Temple is where Aang chosen Appa.

the kyoshi avatar was born an airbender, doesnt that count?? no she was an earthbender but there was avatar yatchen who was the female avatar before ang..... ooo just realized sumone said this alredy |

that is kinda wierd that avatar kyoshi has fans! cause she is an earth bender! i would think that fans would be for air or fire! but i guess she likes fans............?

Yes she was a female airbender, as said about 3 times before.
Kyoshi was an Earthbender, but the Avatar before the Water one, who was male, was a female airbender. I keep forgetting her name though xD

Okay three things:
1.) There are female air benders (there were statues dedicated to them in the western and eastern air temples)
2.) females train in the western and eastern air temples
3.) Kyoshi started as an earth bender
